Below are answers to frequently asked questions relating primarily to property tax bills.

In 2023, Sandwich moved to SEMI-ANNUAL PROPERTY TAX BILLING:
- 1st Issue Tax Bill will be due on or about July 1st and will represent approximately 50% of the total tax burden for the year.
- 2nd Issue Tax Bills will be mailed in early November, once the tax rate has been set by the Department of Revenue, and will be due in early December.

The due date will always be a Tuesday or Thursday (a day we are open) and at least 30 days after the bill was issued [this is true for all tax bills issued from this office: sewer, timber, gravel and land use (LUCT)].
If your mail is being forwarded or you believe you may have a delay in receiving your mail, you may access our Tax Kiosk to find your amount due; Search by Owner, Parcel ID or Address. You can then view and/or print your bill. You cannot pay your bill on-line. If you have moved then please complete the Address Change Request form and submit to this office.
Forms of payment accepted at the Tax Collectors office are CHECKS and CASH only (no credit or debit cards). You may make your payment in person, via mail, Bill Pay (from your bank account) or our secure Drop Box. Kindly include a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your receipt stub if you would like your receipt mailed to you. You may also confirm your payment has been received by visiting our Tax Kiosk.

Yes. Partial tax payments or pre-payments are accepted by check or cash at any time throughout the year. Pre-payments are held as credits and applied to reduce your next bill. Partial payments on past due bills help reduce the amount of interest you pay. Interest will continue to accrue until paid in full.
The current tax rate for the 2023 tax year is $15.42 per $1,000 of assessed value. The New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration sets the towns' Tax Rate sometime in the month of October/November. The new rate will be shown on the bill that is mailed to you in November.

Yes. You can view the current status of your tax bill by visiting our Tax Kiosk, available on-line 24/7. Simply enter the last name of the property owner or property address. You can view and/or print the current information. If there is a balance due, interest will be shown.
If you have an anticipated date of payment CLICK on CHANGE DATE at the top of the screen and interest will be re-calculated. Please keep in mind once due dates have passed, the postal stamp on your envelope (if mailing your taxes) is considered the payment date.

The NH Tax year runs from April 1 of the current year to March 31 of the following year.
As long as the postmark is on or before the due date, it is considered timely and will not be subject to interest. Interest charges will begin accruing after the due date at an annual rate of 8% until the date of a tax lien implementation at which time the annual rate increases to 14%. There is no added 'grace period' once the bill is due.

As the owner of the property, we are required to send you a bill. Your bill contains information that you, as the property owner, need to know such as the tax rate and the assessed value of your property. If your taxes are paid out of an escrow account, please do not remit payment to the town as this will be handled by your financial institution.
Properties in the Village District will receive an annual sewer bill some time during the late summer (typically September). Inquiries regarding meter readings and billed amounts should be made to the Sewer Commissioners.
